House & Garden

House and Garden extends the artist's experimentation with the form of performative documentary. Through careful framing the domestic spaces of house and garden become a series of stages for self portraiture. The artist leads the movement of the camera through the scenes, performing within the stages; sometimes reciting poetry, sometimes engaging in playful, seemingly absurd activities, and at other times performing daily tasks.

The video's slow pace allows the viewer time to observe traces of inhabitation and the effects of time on the environment, and through this attention to intimate details a patina of life is made visible. House and Garden draws on the tradition of ethnographic film, turning it on the filmmaker, and is interspersed with a reoccurring appearance of the colour orange.
