Pridest
Pridest utilises the trope of hand-held documentary video, bringing the viewer into the scene of the 2013 Amsterdam Pride Parade. The artist and a friend act as commentators on the scene, at times questioning through indexical observation and subtle humour the wider politics that are at play in this mass demonstration of engendered identity. Subtitles allude to the common practice of looking for something to see as they move with the camera through the jostling crowd, searching for a moment of possible identification. Frustrated in this process they are confronted instead by mass spectacle. The footage is interspersed with moments of colour-field abstractions, alluding to a retreat from the represented image.
